Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q. DO I NEED TO SEE MY FAMILY DOCTOR BEFORE I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT TO SEE YOU?

No. You can call the office directly and our staff would be happy to book a time that is convenient for you. Morning, evening and weekend appointments are available.

  • Q. CAN RUNNERS BENEFIT FROM ORTHOTICS?

The running gait cycle is very different to the walking gait cycle. As a result, runners who have some biomechanical instability of the foot and ankle are more prone to injuries such as plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinitis, posterior tibial tendinitis, shin splints, and iliotibial band (ITB) syndrome to name a few. The use of properly made prescription orthotics can help to resolve these problems.

At Precision Foot Care and Orthotic Centre runners are thoroughly evaluated using advanced high definition video gait analysis incorporating in-shoe pressure analysis. Most importantly, this is done under actual running conditions. These tools assist our foot specialist in making the most accurate diagnosis along with the best possible orthotic to get you back on track.

Contact our office to see if orthotics can help your running.

  • Q. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE COMMON FOOT INJURIES IN RUNNERS?

The biomechanics of running is very complex and when inefficiencies are present, any or a combination of the following conditions can develop: Plantar fasciitis, Shin splints, Achilles tendonitis, sesamoiditis, Morton’s neuroma, subungual hematoma, peroneal tendonitis, Metatarsal stress fracture, Runner’s Knee, calcaneal stress fracture. The earlier these conditions are addressed, the faster you can get back to running painfree. Your foot specialist at Precision Foot Care and Orthotic Centre  will be able to recognize these conditions and provide the best solution that puts you on the road to recovery.

  • Q. DO YOU TREAT CHILDREN WITH FOOT AND ANKLE PROBLEMS?

Severe flat feet, in-toeing, out-toeing, congenital problems, ingrown toenails, heel pain and sports injuries are some of the various conditions that cause foot pain in children. Early treatment significantly improves the success in getting your child painfree along with preventing any developmental complications arising from these conditions.

Don’t let your child suffer from foot pain. Call today to have an evaluation of your child’s feet using advanced diagnostics available at Precision Foot Care and Orthotic Centre.

  • Q. WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR AN INGROWN TOENAIL?

Ingrown toenails can be very painful and can develop into an infection if left untreated. The portion of the nail that is ingrown is often clipped to relieve the pain and to rapidly resolve the condition. In some cases, a procedure called a partial or total nail avulsion is performed to more permanently get rid of the ingrown toenail. This procedure is done within the office under local anesthetic  to minimize any discomfort. At Precision Foot Care and Orthotic Centre we keep urgent care appointments to specifically address this type of problem.

  • Q. WHAT IS A PLANTAR WART?

A plantar wart is a viral infection of the skin on the foot. This virus belongs to the human papilloma virus (HPV) group. Of the nearly 200 known types of HPV, only some types cause these plantar warts to develop. Plantar warts are contagious and are best treated as soon as possible.

  • Q. IF I AM DIABETIC, SHOULD I HAVE MY FEET CHECKED?

Foot problems are a big risk in diabetics. Diabetics must constantly monitor their feet or face severe consequences, including amputation. As a result, we recommend that diabetics have a routine foot check-up done every 6 months. During this appointment, a thorough vascular, neurological, dermatological and musculoskeletal examination would be completed. More frequent follow-up might be necessary based on the severity of the diabetes and the presence of any inherent complications.

If you have diabetes, don’t wait for problems to develop. Call us immediately to schedule an appointment for your diabetic foot screening.
